Art Contest Awardees at the Tutubi Cultural Center

Julian and Linda handed out certificates and glowing tutubis to the attending winners of the children's art contest that was held at the Philippine Festival last June. They arrived with their proud families and friends. They became the newest Tutubis. The two adorable daughters of Jed Espiritu, Jordan and Ella, opened the ceremony with the Star Spangled Banner. Jon and Elvie Melegrito, Minerva Rosenthal, Ernie Cordero were some of the sponsors in attendance. The winners proudly explained their interpretations of their paintings to the amazed audience. Victor Ecarma, president of the Philippine Young Professionals assisted Linda in handing out the certificates.

Feedback:

Linda, Julian,
I want to thank you for a wonderful evening tonight! The girls and I had a blast (as usual). I particularly enjoyed the celebration of art - Linda, you are so eloquent and so talented in melding the Filipino and American cultures, I was so enthralled by the words you spoke when interpreting the children's art! And you truly spoke to my core when you encouraged us parents to encourage our own children, to allow them to continue to express themselves in their own unique ways. (Only recently have I learned the true value of self-expression - I used to think it was only rhetoric!)

I am thankful to God that I have been able to meet such wonderful and talented people as you two. The education, the awareness, the keeping alive of a culture...I hope you understand what impact you are making for the Filipino-American community - you sure have made an impact on me.
You really struck a nerve tonight, and again I am grateful to you for what you do for this community.
Take care, and see you next time!

Sincerely,
Jed

Dear Julian & Linda,

Both of you are wonderful people and good advocates of the arts for young artist in this area of the country.

Our son, Chief Justice looks forward each year to see the Philippine Festival in Washington, DC where the Tutubi Enterprises with the Philippine-American Foudation Charities, INc. conducts the Children Arts Contest. CJ, a two-time first prize winner (2005 & 2006 ) in the 10-13 age category, he is very proud of his heritage, a young Filipino who doesn't only excell in academics (being in the honor roll list in the US public school)but also making a good name in the arts through your group.

Thank you for giving a ray of hope for young kids, like CJ, to have a venue to express their artistic ideas (with meaningful historical background)in the projects that you initiate every year.

We saw our pictures and that of CJ at the Manila Cafe awarding ceremonies and we are sharing this great/good news to our relatives/friends in the Philippines and all over the world, so they can also visit the website.

Is there any schedule for the display in the Philippine Embassy
of the 2006 winning entries or audience of the new Philippine Ambassador to the USA. Please let us know if there is any, so we could also join you in such activities.

More power to both of you and the group.

See you soon,
